A sliding glass door costs about $2,500 installed on average, and most homeowners pay between $1,200 and $4,100.1,2,3 The door itself is the biggest part of that. Size, panel count, frame material and glass type move the price far more than labor does.1,3 Prices below are national averages* for 2026.

*National averages, not local quotes. Your price depends on door size, frame, glass, whether the opening needs framing work, and your local labor rates.

Labor and repair

Item Cost Source
Installer rate $70 – $100 per hour Angi
Full installation labor $300 – $800 Angi
Pro install, Yelp quotes $300 – $900 Yelp
Replace glass only $250 – $1,000 Angi
Window tinting $5 – $30 per sq ft Angi

Yelp’s 283 quotes for patio door installation show a typical price of $497, with the high end at $2,700. That is much lower than the guides because many quotes are partial jobs, so I use it only for the labor line.4

DIY or hire

Doing it yourself can save the $300 to $800 labor line, but Angi warns that mistakes are costly to fix, and a heavy glass door needs two people.1 Repairs are different: replacing worn rollers and tracks is a reasonable DIY job. Home Depot’s sliding patio door category lists standard sizes like 72 x 80 so you can compare retail prices before you get quotes.
