Shiplap installation costs about $1,000 on average, with most projects landing between $500 and $1,500.1,2 That works out to $2 to $7 per square foot for interior walls, or $3 to $11 installed by HomeGuide’s count.2,3 Prices below are national averages* for 2026.

*National averages, not local quotes. Your price depends on wall area, board material, wall prep, finishing and local labor rates.

HomeAdvisor and Angi print the same average, range and area table, so they are one dataset and count once. HomeAdvisor lists 150 sq ft at $300 to $800, identical to its 100 sq ft row, which looks like a copy error, so I used Angi’s $450 to $1,200.1,2 Exterior shiplap runs higher at $3.60 to $11 per square foot.1,2

Baseboard installation $5.70 – $9 per linear ft HomeAdvisor

One and Done Prep gives a wider spread: $2.80 to $13 per square foot installed, with $6.50 as the middle figure.4 It is a smaller publisher, so I use it as a sanity check on the others rather than a primary number.

DIY or hire

Shiplap is one of the friendlier DIY wall jobs. HomeGuide says it can go over most existing surfaces with nails or adhesive, as long as the wall is flat, and you need a nail gun, miter saw and stud finder.3 Labor is only $1 to $4 of the installed price per square foot, so DIY savings are real but not huge on a small wall. Home Depot’s shiplap paneling category shows boards and panel kits so you can price your own square footage.
