Log cabin construction has a published reference of $100 to $300 per square foot including labor and materials from HomeGuide, while Angi and HomeAdvisor publish $125 to $175 per square foot.123 These are separate national references, not a blended average or a quote for your site. HomeAdvisor explicitly says its cost-factor figures assume you already own the lot.3
Angi and HomeAdvisor both publish a $50,000 to $150,000 project range and cite a $75,000 average for a 500-square-foot cabin in their design or location discussion.23 They are corporate siblings; matching figures alone do not establish independent corroboration.4 Keep that 500-square-foot example separate from estimates for larger floor plans.

Log cabin cost by size
These selected rows reproduce each publisher’s cabin-size table. Square footage is the cabin size in those tables, not the area of its logs, walls or roof. The Angi and HomeAdvisor rows shown here have matching size labels and ranges; HomeGuide publishes different ranges. No explanation for that difference is inferred.123
| Cabin size | HomeGuide build reference | Angi / HomeAdvisor reference |
|---|---|---|
| 500 sq ft | $50,000-$150,000 | $62,500-$87,500 |
| 1,000 sq ft | $100,000-$300,000 | $125,000-$175,000 |
| 1,500 sq ft | $150,000-$450,000 | $187,500-$262,500 |
| 2,000 sq ft | $200,000-$600,000 | Not listed in their size tables |
A $75,000 reference for a 500-square-foot cabin is not a replacement for a 1,000-square-foot estimate. Keep the quoted floor area, build package and site costs visible. HomeGuide explicitly excludes land from its separate small-cabin section; HomeAdvisor states that its cost-factor figures assume the lot is already yours. Do not assume land purchase is included in a cabin construction reference.13
Kit price, installed package and finished build
HomeGuide labels the following design-type figures as installed costs. They remain that publisher’s references, separate from the general cabin ranges above.1
| HomeGuide design type | Published installed reference |
|---|---|
| Log cabin kit | $125-$275 per sq ft |
| Prefab / modular log home | $100-$250 per sq ft |
| Custom stick-built cabin | $150-$400 per sq ft |
| A-frame cabin | $100-$300 per sq ft |
HomeGuide describes its kit-only price as covering labeled materials and blueprints, but elsewhere distinguishes log-only kits from dry-in shell packages, and says some kits or modular cabins may include interior finishes. Those descriptions do not establish the contents of any specific seller’s package.1 This guide does not use a kit-only price as a finished-home total or substitute a publisher’s brand table for a current seller quote.
HomeAdvisor prices a basic log cabin kit at $50 to $80 per square foot for walls, roof, windows and doors, with foundation, floors, bathroom finishes and installation labor extra.3 Angi publishes the same kit per-area range, but describes pre-cut kit contents as sometimes including interior finishes.2 The shared price range does not make package contents identical. Ask for the dated inclusion list before comparing two kits.
Site preparation and foundation references
The following HomeGuide line items keep their published billing units. They are not additions to automatically stack onto the whole-cabin total: the source does not establish that each is excluded from every construction package.1
| Item | HomeGuide reference |
|---|---|
| Land survey | $200-$1,200 |
| Land clearing | $1,200-$8,000 |
| Excavation | $2.50-$15 per cubic yard |
| Land leveling or grading | $0.40-$2 per square foot |
| Concrete foundation, installed | $6-$14 per square foot |
HomeGuide lists a general contractor at $50 to $150 per hour or 10% to 20% of construction costs, and design plans at $0.35 to $5 per square foot.1 Angi lists a general contractor fee of about 20% of the total project cost.2 Those percentage bases should stay visible: do not add a contractor percentage again when the quote already includes that fee.
Utilities and interior finishing
HomeGuide gives $9,000 to $34,500 as an average reference for getting utilities onto vacant land. Its separate finishing reference of $35 to $110 per square foot applies to log-only kits or dry-in shell packages needing additional finishing, not every cabin purchase.1 These are distinct scopes, not two mandatory charges for all builds.
For the actual quote, ask whether electric service, water supply, wastewater service, heating and cooling, plumbing, wiring, flooring, cabinets, counters and fixtures are included. Mark each unresolved item rather than treating a materials-only price as move-in-ready. HomeAdvisor notes that some finishing costs may already be included in prefab cabin pricing.3
What this comparison leaves out
There is no combined national average across publishers. This page does not turn kit component prices into installed totals, infer why publishers disagree, or add overlapping foundation, utility and finish references to a whole-project estimate. It omits brand price tables, property-value claims, build timelines, maintenance schedules and DIY savings. It is a cost-comparison guide, not structural design or installation instructions.
