Range hood installation costs $300 to $850 for a straight replacement and $650 to $2,100 for a new install with an outlet and ductwork (HomeGuide).1 Fixr averages $714 and Angi averages $1,750, so the three sources are far apart.2,3 Prices below are national averages* for 2026.

*National averages, not local quotes. Your price depends on the hood type, whether ductwork and a nearby outlet already exist, and how the duct exits the house.

Why the averages differ: HomeGuide’s $575 centers on replacing an existing hood, while Angi’s $650 to $2,500 range reads like new installs with ductwork and a wider mix of hood types, our reading.1,2 If you already have a duct and outlet in the right place, budget near the HomeGuide or Fixr figures. If you need new venting, plan closer to Angi.

DIY or hire

A ductless or under-cabinet swap onto an existing outlet is the easy case, and HomeGuide says a handyman can do ductless hoods.1 New ducting, roof venting and new wiring are where a pro pays off. Angi says 53% of the homeowners it surveyed bought the hood before hiring a pro, and warns that the wrong size or type can delay the job, so check fit with your installer first.2 When you know the width you need, Home Depot’s range hood section lists current models (plain link, not affiliate).
