Installing a home security camera system costs about $1,289 on average in 2026, with most homeowners paying $590 to $2,040 (Angi).1 HomeGuide averages $830 and Fixr $600, with the gap coming mostly from how many cameras each assumes.2,3 Prices below are national averages* for 2026.

*National averages, not local quotes. Your price depends on camera count, wired or wireless, and whether a pro runs cables.

Four-camera system by type

Type Cameras only (Fixr) Installed (Fixr) Installed (HomeGuide)
Wireless or IP $400 – $600 $500 – $650 $500 – $1,500
Wired or CCTV $300 – $500 $600 – $2,000 $600 – $2,000
Wire-free (battery) n/a n/a $250 – $1,200

Wireless installs differ a lot by source. Fixr adds about $50 of labor to a four-camera wireless set, while HomeGuide adds $80 to $150 per camera.2,3 Fixr’s figure assumes mostly DIY-style mounting, our reading. Ask any installer whether wiring, an NVR or cloud storage are in the price.

Cost per camera (HomeGuide)

Type Camera Labor Total per camera
Wired $50 – $350 $100 – $200 $150 – $500
Wireless $50 – $250 $80 – $150 $130 – $400
Wire-free $70 – $350 installed $0 – $40 $70 – $350

HomeGuide puts an 8-camera system at $1,000 to $2,500 and says per-camera labor drops when more are installed together.2

Labor by number of cameras (Angi)

Cameras Installation labor
1 $100 – $200
2 $200 – $400
4 $400 – $800
6 $600 – $1,200

Angi says labor is 50% to 70% of the total, and that wireless cameras are a reasonable DIY job.1 Its table above is labor only, so it does not match the all-in averages.1

Camera prices by type (unit only)

Camera type Price (HomeGuide)
Fake camera (deterrent only) $10 – $20
Bullet $50 – $250
Dome $80 – $350
Doorbell camera $100 – $250
IP camera $35 – $350
Analog CCTV $25 – $300
Smart home camera $30 – $400

Fixr gives a single IP camera at $125 to $400 installed and PTZ cameras at $100 to $400.3 Angi says a whole-home security system with sensors and an alarm runs $208 to $1,090, and budget $150 to $200 more for a monitor or extra storage.1

Wired, wireless or CCTV

Per HomeGuide, wired cameras need holes drilled for cable and cost more to install, while wireless cameras still need power and can suffer signal interference or hacking.2 Angi says CCTV works without the internet and is harder to hack but has lower resolution and is rare in homes.1 Fixr says a digital NVR system records up to 4K but costs more to install wired.3

Monitoring and fees

Fixr notes that a security company can monitor cameras 24/7 for a monthly fee, and its $2,000 high-end example includes a year of professional monitoring.3 We found no reliable monthly figure in these three sources, so price monitoring separately.

DIY or hire

Battery and plug-in cameras are the easy DIY case. Hire out ceiling or exterior runs, attic cabling and power added near a camera. Point cameras at your own property and check local rules on recording audio and neighbors’ views (our general note, not from the sources).
