Home window tinting costs $5 to $20 per square foot installed, with most homeowners paying $317 to $943 (Angi) or about $500 to $1,200 total (HomeGuide) in 2026.1,2 Fixr averages $375 for a small job of five standard windows.3 Prices below are national averages* for 2026.
*National averages, not local quotes. Your price depends on the film type, total glass area, window shapes and accessibility.

Cost by film type (per square foot, installed)

| Reflective / mirrored | $7 – $9 | $8 – $15 |
| Ceramic | $7 – $12 | n/a |

Fixr puts security film as high as $26 per square foot and decorative screens at $9 to $20.3 Smart or switchable film is the outlier: HomeGuide quotes retrofit smart glass at $25 to $55 per square foot, while Angi quotes $25 to $200.1,2
Cost by window (Angi)
| Window | Example size | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Single/double-hung, 24 x 36 in. | $300 – $900 |
| Large / picture | Fixed, 48 x 60 in. or bigger | $400 – $1,200 |
| Custom / arched | Specialty shapes | $500 – $1,500 |
Angi’s own numbers clash here. Its text says $45 to $660 per window, but its table prices a standard 24 x 36 window at $300 to $900 — a 6-square-foot window at its own $7 to $15 per foot rate works out to $42 to $90.2 We read the table as project-level pricing for jobs centered on that window size, not a single-window price. Get per-window quotes in writing.
Labor and extras
Angi puts labor at $5 to $10 per square foot, sometimes with minimum service or trip fees.2 HomeGuide notes oversized or odd-shaped windows can add $0.50 to $1.50 per square foot.1 Most residential tinting needs no permit, but historic districts and HOAs may restrict exterior or mirrored films.2
What tinting buys you (HomeGuide)
| Benefit | Claimed reduction |
|---|---|
| Sunlight | 80% – 90% |
| UV rays | up to 99% |
| Heat | up to 15°F |
| Glare | 90% – 100% |
These are HomeGuide’s figures, not ours.1 For privacy and security it suggests a 10% to 30% tint; 35% to 50% blocks UV while keeping more light.1 Reflective film gives daytime privacy but not nighttime privacy, when interior light is brighter.1,3
DIY or hire
Fixr prices DIY film on a roll at about $1 per square foot with tool kits at $15 to $45, against $5 to $20 per square foot installed professionally.3 Flat, reachable windows are a reasonable DIY; large panes, second-story glass and security film are not (our view). Home Depot’s window film section stocks rolls and kits (plain link, not affiliate).
